Here’s Boxie (formerly Boxy) and I with this month’s “Ask Me Anything” on George Hodel.
In this session, I discuss the flurry of interest in rumors that the creators of the hit video game L.A. Noire were releasing a sequel titled Sowden House (they are not). And how, unfortunately, the gaming world pounced on the story, unskeptically picking up Steve Hodel’s claim that his father was “the prime suspect” in the Black Dahlia case. (No, he was not).
I also discussed Steve Hodel’s indignant rebuttal to last month’s Ask Me Anything on George Hodel in which he said:
My mother and we three sons lived there at his will off and on until he fled the country and sold the house in 1950. I have never claimed “celebrities” came to the house, only named John Huston (my mother’s ex husband and friend of my father’s) and Man Ray. We boys did witness cocktail parties with many people at the home.
I refer to Steve Hodel’s 2017 interview with “Therapy Videos,” “My Father Was the Black Dahlia Killer” as transcribed by YouTube:
so buys this house in 45 all sorts of interesting people start coming. He has these amazing parties drinking sex parties you know very social yeah the thought you know all of the top actors and actresses are coming. guys well well mom was married to John Huston and and Houston and she actually was a screenwriter too so when she came back out they doing screenwriting and stuff so between Houston’s friends and dad had a you know a very eclectic group of people are artists writers actresses you know and and all kinds of interesting ….
He also says, as transcribed by YouTube (March 2024, “Heroes Behind Headlines”):
Dad gets a job with the LA County Health Department as a social hygiene quickly Rises to the top becomes the vd czar of Los Angeles and um he decides to buy a house befitting his position and he buys the Sowden house many of your listeners and viewers will will know that it’s a built by Lloyd Wright Frank Lloyd Wright Jr and it’s am Mayan temple in the heart of Hollywood yeah 5121 Franklin yeah yeah
so we move in you know in 45 he buys it we move in and we’re the three little princes running around, dad’s the king, mom’s the queen, he has all kinds of cocktail parties all kinds of interesting artists good friends with Man Ray who was a famous surrealist artist and um then in 1949 there’s a knock at the door LAPD Dr Hodel yes you’re under arrest for incest wow he’s arrested
I should also point out that George Hodel resigned from the Health Department in March 1944 to go into private practice, thus he didn’t buy a house “befitting his position” in 1945 or 1946 or whenever. It’s humanly impossible to keep up with Steve Hodel’s lying. It really is.
We also talked about:
–The real timeline of Steve Hodel’s childhood
–A tribute to retired LAPD Homicide Detective Brian Carr and his feud with Steve Hodel.
–Why doesn’t anyone push back against Steve Hodel’s claims?
–Did I interview Paul Veglia? (Yes) Did he have anything useful to say? (He reminisced about his time in Casmalia, and seeing Elizabeth Short walk past).
–Surveillance of George Hodel at the Sowden House.
–Steve Hodel’s role in the Rodney Alcala case.
–Steve Hodel’s insistence on the “lost week” and burn marks on Elizabeth Short’s body, despite all evidence to the contrary.
–Buster the Cadaver Dog.
